Kindle Edition by Peril Press - typos should be Forbidden
By harvey
Typos galore, unfortunately this is the only version of the book available for the Kindle. There are enough typos and odd sentences that need to be deciphered to irritate.

1 - 2 Stars
Warning - If you love the movie, love pulp sci-fi action/romance/horror/adventure stories, and love this novelization which is very good, you will become even more irritated by the poor formatting and typos every couple of pages. Why will you care? Because you want the book to be successful and a pleasure to read, because you are already a fan

Hopefully it is public domain, and we will see more editions.

If the book gets cleaned up and updated (And not re-released with a new ASIN), easily 5 stars

A fun read
By Scoe
My favorite film is Forbidden Planet. I think I have seen it at least forty times and never tire of it. I was delighted to find that there was a novelization of the movie. The book is a fun read and a bit different from the story line of the movie. It is a very fifties sci-fi style of writing. The book goes into the thoughts of Dr Ostrow, Commander Adams and Dr Morbius. Very, very interesting. My only complaint is that the e-book has a lot of typos that can be confusing. It needs a careful going over and correction. Also Robbie is simply a machine that serves and not anywhere near as interesting as the character in the movie

One of the Worst Sci-Fi Books EVER
By Amazon Customer
Shortly after being published, author Anthony Boucher called this book "an abysmally banal job of hackwork," and he was certainly right about that.

I can only conclude that this book was written by some demented hellfire-and-brimstone preacher who briefly glanced at this film for a few minutes before penning this “novelization” that does somewhat vaguely resemble the movie.

Dr. Morbius is now referred to as “satanic” in appearance, and the Krell were basically wiped out by God for the “crime” of “playing god” or creating life, or some such nonsense. Honestly, the author was down to ranting and raving by that point. The whole “moral” of this wretched book was some sort of muddled fundamentalist / luddite nonsense about how humans should forsake space travel, stay at home, worship God, and be careful about delving too deeply into of all this science stuff as that’s apparently just above their station in the grand scheme of things.

I feel all but obliged to quote Dorothy Parker here: “This is not a book to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.”
