Natty Soltesz’s novel Backwoods was a 2012 Lambda Literary Award finalist, and features illustrations by Michael Kirwan. His erotic fiction has been widely published in magazines and anthologies. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 2009 Joe Gage-directed porn film Dad Takes a Fishing Trip. His creative interests include collaging and zine making. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A cut above all the rest

Every generation of readers of spank stories has that one author who is a cut above all rest. Porn writers extraordinaire from the past have included Bob Vickery, Tom Caffrey, John Preston, Lars Eighner and small handful of others. Today's generation has Natty Soltesz.
College Dive Bar, 1 AM is Soltesz's latest offering and joins the ranks of his other works that expertly chronicle the lives of the sexually free college male. Readers familiar with Soltesz's themes will enjoy the frat brothers who get it on with each other, drunk guys who fling inhibitions aside and other aspects of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell culture that goes on behind dormitory doors on campuses across America. Soltesz captures each of these moments expertly.
The magic in Soltesz's writing does not lie in highly-charged sexual horseplay of the 20-something male, but in Soltesz's ability to get the reader to suspend his belief system and buy into the idea these guys are not all super endowed, but have sex many times a day. On top of that, Soltesz imbues his stories with a sense of humor and, at times, tenderness and humanity.
I thought the last couple stories in this volume were rushed and didn't hold quite capture the magic like the majority of the book, otherwise I would have given it five stars. However, this is one collection I will pick and read again and, like Soltesz's collection, Backwoods, I will purchase both the Kindle edition and a paperback edition to add to my permanent library.
