Christmas magic!

Huge fan of the Chronicles of Kerrigan! I couldn't wait for this Novella and I wasn't disappointed! May does a great job introducing us to Rae kerrigan's father as a teenager. Simon Kerrigan.
I always pictured him mean and stuck-up, too smart for everyone else, but was pleasantly surprised. He's a nice kid. Now I want to find out what the heck happened along the way to change his mind-set.
I hope May continues this series with more great books!!

Oh I loved this! Just too short! Way too short! Beth is just so perfect.

I hope Rae one day discovers her parents' full story - well I guess she will since she has her mother back now. Must hear the rest, please release it soon!

Wonderful book. It was great to see a different side of Simon. Its a fairly short story. I also hope that she continues the series. Would love if she did up to the fire.

Not your typical immortal.

When writing an immortal character it is necessary to have a tether that hold the immortal to the world and make them a worth while character to read about. The immortal in this book for the most part is un-tethered. He has no family, he has no real goal, and the only thing that interest him are mysteries only a immortal would notice. The most human thing about him is his drinking habit and his ability to die. That being said the world around the immortal is much more interesting and this world is the primary force that tells the story. I believe the immortal does not kill himself simply because there is nothing to drive him to kill himself. Vampires miss the sun. Mortal Humans lose hope due to lose of time. An immortal that can live forever. But, still can die can really only lose his life and his memories. What is there to loath ones self with infinite time and no tether to society?

I've really been enjoying these books about Adam, the immortal man. This collection of short stories was delightful. I imagine that they could keep coming because with potentially 60,000 years of life behind him there are any number of situations in which Adam may have found himself. I certainly hope to see more of his adventures soon.

Interesting premise with an immortality common thread in this series of short stories. Somewhat troubled by the other common thread of imbibing constantly especially with the knowledge that drinking usually leads to trouble. A death wish?

Exhilerating Extreme White Water Kayaking Adventure

Reason for Reading: The plot sounded exciting and I am a fan of this publisher, trusting their book selection when I haven't heard of the author before.

Excellent. A superb adventure story that should especially touch reluctant male teen readers. This is an exciting rush of adrenaline from start to finish. 17-year-old Rex is an expert whitewater kayaker taking after his grandfather who raised him along with his mother. His grandfather was well-known in his day for making many first descents down rivers in South America but ended his career when local Natives chased him out of an area of Colombia leaving El Furioso unconquered to this day. Rex promises to finish his grandfather's legacy by making this his first "first descent" and heads off to Colombia without anyone in his family really understanding the political situation in that area. Hiring a local indigenous girl, 17-year-old Myriam, to be his guide he finds himself not only facing man vs. nature as he shoots extreme rapids but man vs man when he learns the plight of the indigena out in the wilderness caught between the paramilitary and guerrilla soldiers.

An eye-opening story of culture clashes and world social problems that do not make headline news but should be known and addressed globally. Interesting characters that are real and relatable to teens. I found both Rex and Myriam to be likable teens, flawed and each developed throughout the story. I'm not usually into this type of "political situation" novel but am very fond of outdoor adventure/survival stories and found the political situation only enhanced the exhilaration of the plot. A great library pick!

A thrill ride!

A riveting and action packed book for all ages! Let me begin by saying I am a novice when it comes to kayaking, but that didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying this book. The author does a fine job with drawing the reader in and you feel as though you are riding the white waters along with Rex. Another excellent detail of the book is drawing a vivid image of what life is like in a country where you never feel safe, something many of us take for granted.

Rex is tired of living in his grandfather's shadow and feeling like he always has to prove himself to his elder. His grandfather is a world renown kayaker but he has one section of a river in Columbia which he gave up and did not achieve his first descent. This is the river that Rex intends to tame and claim the first descent for himself. After traveling to Columbia, Rex finds an indigena girl to be his guide along the most difficult part of the river. Rex and his fellow kayakers are accepted into Miriam's village and learn what life is like for them, but Rex refuses to acknowledge the dangers looming all around him. But he can't ignore them when he himself becomes the target and must find a way to escape from something much more dangerous than the river he came to run.

I recommend this book for readers of all ages and genre types. I would have read this book in one sitting if I could have found a way. The book grabs your attention early and hangs on with a death grasp! Excellent book! I look forward to reading more by this author!(

Well-written book. The story starts slow and steady then builds up to an exciting end. There is a lot of info regarding the location in Columbia and the way of life of the people there. And the author has so much detail regarding kayaking, it makes me want to try it myself! Teens should like this book.

The main reason I purchased this was for a course I was taking, I purchased the eBook so that I could easily search key terms and so forth... However, this book has no page numbers whatsoever so it was extremely challenging to reference in class. Ultimately I had to borrow the traditional paperback from a classmate, so essentially I wasted my money. However, if you are reading this for leisure then please disregard this review.

More than a Mentor

A friend gave me this book as a present. I was rather expecting more of the usual 'feel the fear and do it anyway' self-help guff but The Artist's Mentor really was a revelation. Wonderfully well-researched, helpfully structured quotations tied together thematically by Jackman's non-partisan and clear-headed prose, build into a great little book that's a deal more than a mentor, it's also a handy reference and an absorbing insight into the painterly mind. I am a writer by profession but I found this book fascinating and useful for my own work. An excellent workbook for anyone interested in creative endeavour of all kinds.

This book isn't quite what I expected. That doesn't mean it isn't exactly what it says, just not what I was looking for. It is a book of quotes basically by famous artist throughout history. So if that will inspire you...so will this book.
